How to Make Matcha
Making Matcha traditionally is simple, but technique makes a big difference.
What you need
- 1–2 tsp matcha powder (about 2–4g)
- 60–80 ml hot water
- Water temperature: 70–80°C (not boiling)
- Bamboo whisk (Chasen)
- Matcha bowl
- Fine sifter
Steps
Sift the matcha
Sift 1–2 tsp into a bowl to remove clumps and create a smoother texture.
Add hot water
Pour a small amount of water at 70–80°C. Boiling water can make matcha taste bitter.
Whisk properly
Use the bamboo whisk and move your wrist quickly in a W or M motion—not circular motions.
Create foam
Whisk for about 15–30 seconds until a light layer of foam forms.
Enjoy immediately
Drink while fresh because matcha powder naturally settles over time.
Matcha latte version
Prepare the matcha as above
Add:
- 150–200 ml milk (dairy, oat, almond, etc.)
- Optional sweetener (honey or syrup)
- Ice for an iced latte
Sift. Whisk. Sip. A simple ritual transformed into your daily moment of calm energy.
